While I would never attribute any decline in book sales to their physical appearance I think it's undoubtedly true that books look a lot worse these days than they did 30 or 40 years ago. I'll be happy to purchase these ones in 20 years when I can find them used for under $30.

Any opinion on the NY Review of Books 'classics' series? I find them rather handsome.

On the other hand, I think Oxford has the new "World's Classics" series design all wrong:

Too much white space. The unpretentious letter seems derived from several European published books I've seen, though, and that's sort of an interesting development.
