Man, when it's put that way, Plato would be proud. Except in his version the people at the bottom would all be smiling and thankful. (And the people at the top would all be screwin' each others' wives 'n stuff. Oh wait, that happens anyway!)

On the people at the bottom being happy, I believe Lyotard has a book entitled Libidinal Economies which is a historical study of much the same thing...I think that's what it's about at least. On the people at the top, read any extant text 3000BC-Present

Speaking of Lyotard, I was in the Memphis Public Library yesterday (and the day before that and the day before that) and I noticed that "The Postmodern Condition" was call number 001 L991. So if some ambitious youth wanted to absorb all the knowledge of the Shelby County Public Library System, he would be confronted first and foremost with the theory of the end of all metanarratives. Kind of putting the cart before the horse, don't you think?

This poster was in one of my teacher's rooms in high school. It was my introduction to capitalism.

I've begun to think that political persuasion is in a purely indirect relation to high school indoctrination. Thus, good ol' boy central MUS produced first and foremost Comrade Sheriff, then to a lesser extent yours truly, then the more liberal Park School gave us Mr. Robot Q. Progressive-in-the-Hofstadterian-Tradition,
and finally Austin-5000, exposed to Howard Zinn at such a tender age, has come around to Captain Freemarket. Actually, I'll let you two fight it out as to which was more leftist, the experimental private school or the Michigan Public School System. DChan, according to this equation the combined forces of Indiana and South Carolina mean you're in some way responsible for the Communist takeover in Cuba.

a study in Nature corroborates This by Showing that 85% of South Carolingians are direct bloodline descendents of Leon Trotsky
