A Bold Move:

Mississippi Legislature House Bill #282...the way of the future?

"Should this pass, scales will appear at the door of restaurants, people with BMIs of 30 or higher won’t be allowed to be served. And to comply with government regulations, restaurants will have to keep records of patrons' BMIs." --from Junkfood Science

Apparently building narrow doorways through which patrons will have to pass in order to be served is another option in the works. This will surely reshape the metaphor of the proverbial camel passing through the eye of a needle...

The author of the Junkfood Science site seems to imply that overeating has nothing to do with obesity. Is anyone familiar enough with this to know what the answer is? Is it "glandular"?

I saw this being debated on CNN or some such channel and they had a...not sveldt woman bitterly arguing against it and the whole beauty industry.

I guess that's right, but at the same time a lot of the systemic obesity people talk about, as in Mississippi, is a result of people being poor and uneducated and not having the time or resources to learn to cook and prepare healthy food, even when it's comparably priced to junk food.

They could go for the narrow doorway option, but don't forget these prophetic words: "Fatty, fatty, two by four, couldn't get through the bathroom door, so he did it on the floor" -- probably would be unpopular with the janitors.

If universal health care does come to fruition in the US, in one form or another, I wonder what will and should be done about the extra cost that the obese will be forcing upon the rest of society.

A 50% tax on all menu items at Dairy Queen?
