Claude Levi Strauss just celebrated his hundredth birthday. Our weapons are useless against him, he cannot be stopped.

Last week was Jacques Barzun's 101. You might remember him from his work as editor of a wonderful collection that hit bookshelves in 1927. Those were the days: Herbert Hoover wasn't president quite yet, and the Scopes Monkey Trial had, briefly it seemed, exited the news cycle.
